Awesome trip. Ken outdid himself planning before during and after the dives. The Smiling Seahorse was an excellent choice. Good dives and everyone had fun. Boat is set up for diving and well maintained. My 3rd trip with Channel Islands Dive Adventures.

Fantastic trip! Great vis and no chilly thermocline on the wreck. Clear water on the rigs, too. The Giant Stride is my favorite boat outa LA Harbor, and captain/owner Jim is a super nice guy.Looking forward to my next CIDA trip!!

Dive sites were great with awesome visibility. The weather was cooperating as well, with slight overcast. Lots of lobsters! Nitrox is definitely a plus! Highly recommend this trip. Thank you, Danny, and Ken!

Spectre-Advanced Limited load Trip

Thank you, Michael, and you are so right! It not only hurts the customer, but it also hurts the charter company. I believe it reflects more on CIDA than the Triton because the trips are booked through CIDA and not the boat directly. Thank you for your honest review.

Might be a great boat and a great captain. Might have been a great trip. But the trip was cancelled a few days prior to its scheduled departure. The cancellation was not for weather reasons or because of the boat's condition. The captain just decided to do something else with his boat. For those of us driving several hours for a trip, including non-refundable hotel reservations, late cancellations are inconvenient and expensive. I won't be scheduling a trip with DV Triton in the future because it doesn't seem dependable.

As usual, Ken and CIDA provided another excellent trip to channel islands with plenty of room on the boat with great people. Had an amazing time on this diving trip to Fiji. The reefs are healthy and teaming with fish. The diving was not always the easiest with the currents, but as they told us, the current brings in nutrients and the fish. The dive masters were very competent and kept us safe without imposing too many rules. 

Taveuni Garden Island Resort was comfortable, extremely friendly, excellent food and we felt like we owned the place. Volivoli was larger and more upscale, also excellent food, friendly staff and great dive operation with a well equipped camera room.
Thank you to Ken for organizing this trip. I hope to have the opportunity to travel with the group again.

What a great trip, with a wonderful group of folks.  Everything went smooth as silk.

Good resorts and diving.  Fiji is fun, friendly people and culture. Definitely going back again with Ken. 

Thank you, Tom! You are so right. Both the resorts and diving were superb, and when we left, it felt like we were saying goodbye to family. I am happy you had a great time and it was a pleasure having you join us. Going back will be easy because I am working on a 10-day return trip to Volivoli in July 2027.

The trip was great in almost every regard. Ken Kollwitz is to be commended for his organizational skills and for making everyone feel welcome and valued as a member of the dive team.

Garden Island Resort and Volivoli Beach Resort were both super. The Volivoli resort is more upscale but the staff and dive team at Garden Island are beyond friendly, helpful and welcoming. 

Diving in Fiji is off the charts wonderful. It more than lives up to its reputation. The mystery to us while at Garden Island is why there weren't more people. Our little group of 13 were the only clients on certain days. The place is fabulous and the dive team superb. 

I hope Ken plans another trip at the same time of year. Personally, I would be very happy returning to both resorts.

CIDA always does a great job of hosting their clients. This charter on the Spectre was no exception. We did three wall oriented dives in lesser dove spots to take advantage of the limited load booking.

It was an incredible trip with mind-boggling diving.. Both locations had excellent visibility, healthy reefs and billions of fish. Taveuni Resort was comfortable. The dive sites were about 15 minutes away. Volivoli is a beautiful resort.  Dive sites were about 45 minutes away. All in all, an excellent trip.

Another great day of underwater adventures with the amazing Spectre and crew! From a warm greeting on the boat to top-notch dive sites and food it was overall amazing. We saw lots of fish at every dive site, including huge kelp and even an octopus! The food was awesome, snacks were plentiful and the hot tub ready and beckoning us in after a cold dive in California waters. On the way back the crew pointed out a giant mola mola (sunfish) and some humpback whales, which the captain slowed down for to allow us all to see the mother and calf together. Will definitely dive with the Spectre again (and again)!

DV Triton-Kelpcutter Wreck and Exploring

Thank you, Vivek! It makes me happy when others like yourself are willing to step outside the box and enjoy life in a little different way than most. Yep, exploring is an adventure, and using the Triton for these trips works out great.

Short and sweet trip to sites which normal party dive boats wont venture. CIDA is a good host and Triton skipper “Danny” is a great guy who is always willing to share good stories and local dive info. In usual dive boats the skipper(captains) have a attitude and wont even answer your questions properly. CIDA and Triton combo is a treat where you feel like an explorer to new local dive sites.

GREAT trip!  Basically a private charter with personalized attention and pleasant captain.  We went diving on outer reefs in Malibu that were pristine and full of life.  Nitrox fills all day was a plus!  Safe, fast, fun... new sites... I'll be back!

As usual, Kens's trip to Santa Cruz was terrific. Very well organized, had great people, a great boat, and the diving was incredible - Visibility best I have ever experienced in California. Flame Reef is a terrific site, a bit deeper them some great kelp and marine life. Lots of topography. I didn't see them there was a Mola and a Giant sea bass Hanging around.I will definitely go on more of Kens Dive trips

&nbsp; &nbsp;For this trip, we will do two dives, exploring some new sites and possibly diving some sites we have already been to. Most will be between 1-3 miles offshore from the Channel Islands Harbor in deeper water around 80'-100'. In this area lies the Kelpcutter, which is always a fun dive, and many pieces of the <a target='_blank' href="https://douglasmthompson.wordpress.com/2016/09/17/la-jenelle-shipwreck-off-ventura-county-coast-a-piece-of-living-history/">La Jennelle wreck</a> that were scuttled after she was salvaged from running aground in Port Hueneme.&nbsp; We will do a drift dive along the outer Channel Islands Harbor breakwall for our last dive. This dive is a beautiful dive with depths of between 10'-30'. The breakwall comprises large rocks that create a home for lots of marine life, including lobsters, fish, crabs, sea fans, and more. Even though this site is very close to shore it is seldom dived and can be a great place for hunting lobsters.

Trip Highlights

Advanced certification (AOW) or equivalent California experience required. &nbsp;Dive conditions could include cold water, current, swell, possible limited visibility and deep water. Surface Marker Buoys (SMB) are required for all divers, due to the possibility of being caught down current.&nbsp;

This trip is best suited for

&nbsp;The DV Triton is 40′ x 12′ in size and set up for only six divers. It’s a new-to-dive trips around the Channel Islands, local wrecks, and awesome coastal diving, and gives divers choices they never had before. The owner of the DV Triton, Danny Graham, has been diving for years as a recreational, Tech and rebreather diver. A few years back, he went from working for Nuvair to owning a boat doing commercial urchin diving and removing old nets and lobster cages. Mid 2023 Danny received his captain’s license and license to operate the boat for six divers. Now, Danny can operate the boat for a multitude of work and keep doing what he loves.&nbsp; If you are an Experienced Advanced Diver or above and are looking for something different than the usual diving, the DV Triton is for you.&nbsp;&nbsp;Where the Triton lacks creature comforts, it makes up for it with speed, tank fills, and the ability to do things and dive locations you can not with other dive operators. For tank fills, there is a 3500 PSI compressor with banked 35% Nitrox and the ability to do custom Nitrox mixes and supply 100% 02.
