The Triton is docked in a convenient location.  It is a small boat so you get personalized service.  We went to the west side of Anacapa and did three dives.  Nitrox fills were included.   Hot soup after the second dive hit the spot since I  was in a wetsuit.

The Olympic was built in Ireland in 1877 as a 3-masted ship and was 258′ x 38′. She was later sold and relocated to Washington State in the early 1900s to haul lumber, where she later worked in Alaska. In 1934, she became a fishing barge that was renamed the Olympic ll and moved to San Pedro. On September 4, 1940, when she was hit by another boat, the Sakito, and sank fast. The Olympic now sits a few miles from Los Angeles Harbor in 100′ of water.&nbsp;Diving the Olympic ll can be fun. She sits on her starboard side and her bow is relatively intact, standing some 30 feet off the bottom. There is no penetration diving on the Olympic ll and visibility can vary but either way, it is still a FUN wreck to dive.&nbsp; Diving the oil rigs Eureka, Elley, and Ellen can be a fantastic experience. Eureka (about 700’ deep) is the furthest out of the 3, and in most divers’ opinion, it is the best to dive. Elley and Ellen (around 260’ deep) are not far from Eureka and are about 8 miles out of Long Beach. Elley and Ellen are connected by a bridge, which makes them more like an oil rig complex. What makes an oil rig such an incredible dive is the amount of life that lives on the legs and cross braces. You then have the schooling fish and sea lions swimming around the structure.&nbsp;The rigs are a photographer’s dreams come true. The visibility can vary depending on conditions and depth from 20’-100’. &nbsp;Advanced divers and above that have experience in cold water conditions including; current, swell, possible limited visibility and deep water. The oil rigs visited are unique and interesting and inherently have more hazards and may not necessarily have the best dive conditions. Oxnard, CA, USA

&nbsp; &nbsp;For this trip, we plan to dive the Kopco Star Kelpcutter wreck first and then continue to the front side of Anacapa Island. The KopcoStar was built at Terminal Island (San Pedro) in 1952 and measured 51.6’ long, 27.3 in the beam, 4.8 in-depth, and powered by 4 diesel engines with a rating of 900hp. It was owned by the Kopco Star Co. of Los Angeles and was a kelpcutter that operated out of the Kopco kelp processing facility in Pt. Hueneme (Ventura County) harvesting kelp from Pt. Hueneme to Pt. Conception. On October 1, 1963, at around 10:00 pm she listed to port shortly after taking on a heavy load of kelp and sunk about 6 miles offshore from Pt. Hueneme. There was almost no warning, preventing the crew from making a radio call for help and luckily everyone was rescued.&nbsp;&nbsp;Today, the Kopco Star sits on a sandy bottom in a westerly direction at a depth of 85’ with an average visibility of about 10’-20’. Measuring about 25 x 60, it is a very picturesque dive. The bow area is where the kelp would have come up and over into the ship and it stands about 10’ high and is home to many fish and scallops. The stern is home to 4 diesel engines and props, an adult wolf eel, and more fish; it stands about 6’-8’ high. There is a slight list to port with the starboard side about 3’-4’ high.&nbsp;&nbsp;The other sites we will explore will vary depending on conditions. As far as other local wrecks there are 50’-60’ fishing boats, 30’-40’ sailboats along with the La Jannelle pieces. There are also some assorted wrecked manmade structures to explore. &nbsp;The DV Triton is 40′ x 12′ in size and set up for only six divers. It’s a new-to-dive trips around the Channel Islands, local wrecks, and awesome coastal diving, and gives divers choices they never had before. The owner of the DV Triton, Danny Graham, has been diving for years as a recreational, Tech and rebreather diver. A few years back, he went from working for Nuvair to owning a boat doing commercial urchin diving and removing old nets and lobster cages. Mid 2023 Danny received his captain’s license and license to operate the boat for six divers. Now, Danny can operate the boat for a multitude of work and keep doing what he loves.&nbsp; If you are an Experienced Advanced Diver or above and are looking for something different than the usual diving, the DV Triton is for you.&nbsp;&nbsp;Where the Triton lacks creature comforts, it makes up for it with speed, tank fills, and the ability to do things and dive locations you can not with other dive operators. For tank fills, there is a 3500 PSI compressor with banked 35% Nitrox and the ability to do custom Nitrox mixes and supply 100% 02. Ventura County Line

&nbsp;The Deep Hole area off Ventura County Line offers awesome boat diving on the deeper outer reefs. This area is further by boat than Anacapa Island and, therefore, is often overlooked. Join CIDA on this trip for something different!&nbsp; &nbsp;This trip to the Deep Hole area focuses on photography and hunting.&nbsp;The Deep Hole/Neptune’s/County Line area is about 20 miles south of Ventura Harbor (15 from Channel Islands Harbor) with the main dive sites ½-1 mile offshore and some deeper sites extending further out. Another name for the Deep Hole area is the “depot” because, supposedly, it was created using concrete rubble from an old railroad depot.&nbsp; &nbsp;This area is large and dramatic, comprising large boulders, small rock piles, rock walls, rocky reefs, and pinnacles. There are deeper sites (70′-80′) such as Sea Fans and Sweet Spot, and there is a shallower (40’-60’) spot called “The Ring” with its rocky reef and kelp forest that can rival any spot on the islands on a good day along with an awesome site very close to the ring called “Towers”. The main dive area has depths ranging from 40′ to 100’, and other unexplored areas are out towards 150′ and beyond! Depending on the time of year, the visibility can be from 10’-50’.&nbsp; &nbsp;The Neptune’s area can be excellent for photography, spearfishing and lobster diving. There is sheepshead and lots of large barred sand bass swimming around the rocky reefs, kelp (not as much out deeper), scallops, lobsters, and lots of invertebrates, so you can see why this area can be so special and without the diving pressure, the islands get. This area is more like what California diving used to be!&nbsp;

Advanced certification (AOW) or equivalent California experience required. &nbsp;Dive conditions could include cold water, current, swell, possible limited visibility and deep water. Surface Marker Buoys (SMB) are required for all divers, due to the possibility of being caught down current.&nbsp;

&nbsp;The Spectre dive boat and crew do a great job, usually catering to new divers and divers new to the area, going to Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. However, with the special CIDA dive trips, this will not be the case. Our trips will all be limited-load for advanced divers and above and will go to more advanced sites around the islands.&nbsp;These trips have worked out great for CIDA and the Spectre because everyone loves the extra room on the limited-load trips, and the diving doesn’t get to be the same old thing going to different and more advanced dive sites. Santa Cruz Island

The Spirit of America (Aka: Peacock), if that is what her real name was had a lot of mystery around her. It was known that the wreck was a WWII Minesweeper that sunk in the ’70s. The Spirit of America sits upright on a sandy bottom at about 65’deep outside the Scorpion Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island. Visibility here can be 15’-40’. With hull and its structure to explore the Spirit of America is a very good dive. It is in a protected area and there are lots of fish and the biggest Spanish Shawls on her.
